Hurricane Paulina was a Category 4 hurricane that struck Mexico’s Pacific coast in October 1997. It formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean and rapidly intensified, eventually making landfall near Manzanillo, a popular resort town in the state of Colima. The hurricane caused significant damage and at least 230 fatalities in Mexico, and was one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes of the 1997 season. It also caused flooding and landslides, destroyed homes and businesses, and left many thousands of people without power or access to services. Despite early warnings and evacuations, the impact of Hurricane Paulina highlighted the need for improved preparations and disaster response in the region.
